Death stare of a Changeable Hawk-eagle, Yala, NP
A frightening and intimidating look of a changeable hawk-eagle directly above our jeep. On the photo, you can see that its nictitating membrane (transparant eye lids that protect and moisten its eyes) were half-way in its "blinking" movement.

The changeable hawk-eagle or crested hawk-eagle is a bird of prey species of the family Accipitridae. It was formerly placed in the genus "Spizaetus", but studies pointed to the group being paraphyletic resulting in the Old World members being placed in "Nisaetus" and separated from the New World species.
