This is a pretty trendy foraged food around here these days. I don't know how much is charged for it, but collecting it (for free!) would be pretty easy. It grows right near the tide line, especially in deep coves or estuary areas where there's mud at the shoreline rather than rocky or sandy beach. Most things can't grow in the salty mud, but sea bean thrives.

''Salicornia virginica'' is a halophytic perennial dicot which grows in various zones of intertidal salt marshes and can be found in alkaline flats. It is native to various regions of the Northern Hemisphere including both coasts of North America from Canada to Mexico.
