    1. Okay thank you, I believed it was a killdeer because it was with a killdeer and seemed to be mates. When it flew it looked just like the killdeer did. Thank you :) Posted 10 years ago
      1. Yes this time of year they are often observed in similar areas. Meadowlarks are one of my favorite birds! I just love hearing their call in the spring! Posted 10 years ago

The western meadowlark is a medium-sized icterid bird, about 8.5 in long. It nests on the ground in open country in western and central North America grassland. It feeds mostly on insects, but also seeds and berries. It has distinctive calls described as watery or flute-like, which distinguish it from the closely related eastern meadowlark.
