  2. I have been mapping the arrival of Pied Flycatcher at Etherow, last week I counted 4 males 2 seen & 2 heard. Posted 10 years ago
    1. Really Ant? Wow, i have only visited a few times, but i think its a fantastic spot and there are certainly lots of birdies there. Have you seen the Mute Swans nesting? I walked past the mother on the huge nest in Keg Pool and the Male was on the other side of the pool...but saw me and my dog and came bounding over...not happy! and then it followed us all the way down on the waters edge as we walked the path, just to make sure we were on our way. ha ha very protective creatures and have a nasty bite I've heard! 1. Yes it is a good spot I have a good record of birdlife in there. She is sitting on 6 eggs, and his bark is worse than his bite, you can hand feed both of them and Eugene (the Egyptian Goose). I think (as I'm sure you know) he was more concerned with the dog. Posted 10 years ago

The European pied flycatcher is a small passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family. One of the four species of Western Palearctic black-and-white flycatchers, it hybridizes to a limited extent with the collared flycatcher. It breeds in most of Europe and western Asia. It is migratory, wintering mainly in western Africa. It usually builds its nests in holes on oak trees.
