The smallest woodpecker of central Europe
This photography shows Lesser spotted woodpecker (Least-concern by IUCN) - which is the smallest species of woodpecker in Poland. I took this picture in birch forest. This woodpecker is really tiny - a size of a sparrow!

The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is a member of the woodpecker family Picidae. It is sometimes assigned to the genus "Dendrocopos". The range of the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is the Palearctic region, but several subspecies are recognised.
