  1. Ferdy, this could be a Viper instead of a Cat Snake?
    Vipers also have the yellow-bands/rings.

    1. Which Viper would it be then?
From what I recall (7 years ago), our guide identified it as a cat snake.

      1. Possible commonly seen Viper from Borneo is Bornean Keeled Pit Viper - Tropidolaemus subannulatus but they are highly variable with the colours/bands. Its the shape of the head that will be helpful to clearly verify if its a Viper or not.

If you look at my picture of Boiga dendrophila and other online images, you can see the lower jaw is very pronouncedly yellow and the scales looks different. But I am not an expert on Snakes, just an observation :D

        1. Thanks, Albert, you could definitely be right, but I don't have the snake expertise either to confirm it. Posted 8 years ago
          1. Ferdy, most pictures of Boiga dendrophila I see online are black and bluish black, which fits their description.

In your picture, is it dark green, or is it black?
If it is dark green, then it is highly likely that your snake is not Boiga dendrophila.

            1. I do think it is black, there's just a green haze in the photo. It was a pretty terrible camera at the time. Posted 8 years ago

The gold-ringed cat snake or mangrove snake is a species of rear-fanged colubrid. It is one of the biggest cat snake species, averaging 6-8 feet in length. It is considered mildy-venomous, but moderate envenomations resulting in intense swelling have been reported, though there have been no severe cases of hospitalisation or fatalities.
