    1. This lichen grows in abundance in some forests around here. It really is that bright - the effect can be a bit psychedelic, especially when the sun shines on it. It shares it's common name with a closely related species, Letharia vulpina, that has a bit more information available. If their uses correlate, Native Americans used it to make dye and as a poison for wolves and foxes. It contains a compound that affects meat eaters, but interestingly enough not mice or rabbits.
