Douglasia nivalis (also known as Androsace nivalis) is an exceptional alpine species only found in the Wenatchee Mountains and some eastern outliers to the Cascade Range to the north most notably on Chumstick Mountain near Leavenworth. The leaves are grey in appearance due to the dense hairs which is unusual in the species. On the Iron Peak trail it is found over a wide elevation range from about 1300 m to the summit ridge at 1900 m. The lower elevation occurrences are in openings in the forest.. more
