Marico Sunbird Female - Sucking up Sweet
A female Marico Sunbird sucks nectar from the blossoms of a Blackthorn bush (Acacia mellifera). These birds are super quick, agile and precise. They have a very small, long tongue that pushes out to suck up both water and nectar. Photographed in the complete wilds of Namibia.
The Marico sunbird or Mariqua sunbird is a species of bird in the Nectariniidae family.
It is found in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
