Common Impala - Muscles and Motion
A Common Impala ewe at full speed, showing off her muscles.
Instinct is a wonderful thing. The "flight or fight" distance varies from species to species. As is normal with the quicker antelope species, the flight distance tends to much further away than that, for example, of an Elephant or Rhino (besides the fact that the Elephant and Rhino count on their strength as a defensive mechanism).
I got this shot off when I found a herd of Impala grazing off to one side, and this female was "separated" off to another side. I knew she would want to join the rest of her herd, and got ready for a running shot.
The impala is a medium-sized African antelope. It is the type species of the genus "Aepyceros" and belongs to the family Bovidae. Two subspecies of the impala have been recognised: the common impala and the black-faced.
