Waterbuck - All I need is Love

A Waterbuck calf rubs against it's mother in a very loving manner.

This adult cow is licking Salt Rock ... sodium chloride. It is of very little nutritional value, but is widely accepted as "pleasing" and "tasteful" to wildlife. Here, in a social setting, the cow clearly expresses her love of the salt ... while her calf expresses its love of its mother.

Multiple meanings in this photograph. Once upon a time, long ago, wars were fought over salt. A necessity and tasty supplement that man could not go without. So too for wildlife, although they won't kill each other over it.

Secondary, and most importantly, the calf loving its mother. This is so magnificent. For all that it is worth, this baby animal loves its mother more than all the salt in the world. And that speaks volumes of what the relationship is like within the Animal Kingdom.
