The serval, "Leptailurus serval" or "Caracal serval", known in Afrikaans as "Tierboskat", "tiger-forest-cat", is a medium-sized African wild cat. DNA studies have shown that the serval is closely related to the African golden cat and the caracal.

We’re beginning a series highlighting some of the most fantastic body parts belonging to wildlife. Today, we are focusing on exceptional ears! Over the next week, we’ll also be featuring creatures with unique eyes, noses, mouths, feet, and ‘other’. Stay tuned! #JungleDragon
Servals (Leptailurus serval) have the longest ears of any type of cat! Sort of like radar dishes, their giant ears can independently rotate 180 degrees! These pretty kitties often sit quietly with their eyes closed while listening for prey, relying on their giant ears more than their eyes. Such exquisite ears are a feature that makes them one of the most successful hunters on the savannah—even better than lions! {Spotted in Zimbabwe, Africa by tweezie94} #Serval #Leptailurusserval
