The Descent!
Gaurs are probably the largest bovine species in the wild. They are massive, with some weighing over a tonne!!
They are usually in groups, but sometimes huge males can be seen wandering around alone. I have been seeing a herd of gaurs in this part of Karnataka since last year during post monsoons. Not sure if i'm seeing the same herd or not but the number has been increased.
It was in morning when we decided to hike back, we came across this herd on the 3rd mountain slope from us, descending down to the thick forest patch in the base.
It was treat to watch them descend slowly, one of the best moments for us!

The gaur, also called Indian bison, is the largest extant bovine and is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. The species is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1986, as the population decline in parts of the species' range is likely to be well over 70% during the last three generations.
