Malabar Trogon This is an exceptionally rare bird, and i saw two different ones in two different parts of the forrest on two different days. I can not calculate how lucky that was. I have many friends who live there and have never seen one in their entire life! crazy! :) Geotagged,Harpactes fasciatus,India,Spring, adhocphotographer, india, john rowell, kabini, malabar trogon Click/tap to enlarge PromotedSpecies introCountry intro

  1. What an amazing spotting, John! It's a gorgeous bird, and despite it being rare, you captured it very very well. With that I mean that many photos of rare birds are made in a rush, but this one is very calm. Awesome! Posted 10 years ago
    1. Hahaha, you only see the last of a series of rushed, blurry "quick, stop, stop!!!" pictures! ;) Posted 10 years ago

The Malabar trogon is a species of bird in the trogon family. It is found in the forests of Sri Lanka and peninsular India. In India it is mainly found in the Western Ghats, hill forests of central India and in parts of the Eastern Ghats. They are insectivorous and although they are not migratory, they may make seasonal movements in the hill regions.
