Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus)
The Lapwing is very graceful and acrobatic when in flight. It nests on the ground, very often on farmland, leaving the young vulnerable to predators and farming methods such as ploughing. However, the Lapwing adults are very protective and go to great lengths in order to protect their young. The always have a very loud distinct call or cry which can be heard from afar. I took this image on the farm in which i live.

The northern lapwing, also known as the peewit or pewit, green plover or just lapwing, is a bird in the plover family. It is common through temperate Eurasia. In winter it forms huge flocks on open land, particularly arable land and mud-flats.
