Sri Lankan Leopard in remote tree, Yala NP, Sri Lanka Spotting a leopard in Sri Lanka is a big deal that will soon lead to all jeeps in the park lining up. We spotted this one ourselves using binoculars. You need a lot of luck for it, but a way to increase odds is to look for trees like this, that are not too high and have a thick horizontal branch, as well as shade. This tree is easy to climb, comfortable to lay on and take prey on, and cools down the cat. Asia,Panthera pardus kotiya,Sri Lanka,Sri Lankan Leopard,Yala Click/tap to enlarge

The Sri Lankan Leopard is a leopard subspecies native to Sri Lanka. Classified as "Endangered" by IUCN, the population is believed to be declining due to numerous threats including poaching for trade and human-leopard conflicts. This subspecies is colloquially known as Kotiya in Sinhala and Siruththai in Tamil.
