Atlas Moth (Attacus Atlas)

The Atlas moth is a large saturniid moth found in the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia, and is common across the Malay archipelago. This picture was taken at the Artis Zoo in Amsterdam.

  Yes they have over a thousand types of moths & butterflies and you can get up close as you walk through the garden or pavilion as i think it was called. I couldn't get over the size of this beauty. Posted 10 years ago

The Atlas Moth

The Atlas moth is a large saturniid moth found in the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia, and common across the Malay archipelago. Atlas moths are considered the largest moths in the world in terms of total wing surface area. Their wingspans are also amongst the largest, reaching over 25 cm. Females are appreciably larger and heavier.
