    1. I have a lot of 'nearly but not quite' shots! :) Posted 10 years ago
  2. Great timing Posted 10 years ago
    1. It was more luck than timing... It isn't often I wish my camera had better performance but in these fast situations more frames per second would be ideal! :) Posted 10 years ago

    1. Thanks, but if i were the pelican, I'd be more worried about the crocodiles that infest the waters! :)
The lurking danger The ranganthittu bird sanctuary is a cluster of islands and one large island in a crocodile infested part of the Kaveri river. It is because of the crocodiles that the birds thrive, as they are the guardians of the island which is so precious for the birds to nest on. The treat of the crocodiles is far less than the threat of the other predators that the crocodiles scare off (eat). The spot-billed pelican or grey pelican, is a member of the pelican family. It breeds in southern Asia from southern Pakistan across India east to Indonesia. It is a bird of large inland and coastal waters, especially large lakes. At a distance they are difficult to differentiate from other pelicans in the region although it is smaller but at close range the spots on the upper mandible, the lack of bright colours and the greyer plumage are distinctive.
