Intent on Fishing I did wish a little for a clearer view of this heron, but it was so intent on fishing it didn't seem to care I was there. For such a large bird they are usually very timid, so this is the closest I've ever been to one. There seemed to be a lot of fish in this area. They kept jumping out of the water. The great blue heron is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America, as well as the Caribbean and the Galápagos Islands.
