1. Glad to share. Horton Plains is a lot different from most other parks in Sri Lanka, just so you know. And yes, it is a HDR, the light was very harsh at this hour. Posted 10 years ago

        1. It's also a great place to freeze your ass off, that's how I remember it: very lengthy hike fully in the open with extremely heavy wind :) Posted 6 years ago
        2. Oh and check out the world's end story:
World's End, Horton Plains, Sri Lanka The most popular attraction of Horton Plains National Park is this "World's End", a giant cliff that goes 4,000 feet down. Your view strongly depends on weather conditions, which can change in minutes. As you can see, it was quite cloudy when we arrived.

By coincidence, last week I read an amazing story regarding World's End in a local dutch paper. A dutch couple visited yet the guy tripped (there's no fences) and fell down the cliff. Needless to say, the wife was going insane as she just lost her husband. Yet the guy was on an edge only 5m below and made himself heard. With everybody both happy and in panic mode at the same time, it happened again(!). He fell again, this time to 20m below the edge. He had a tiny space of ground to stand on but could only manage to balance on it by holding on to vegetation.

As locals were inventing ways to save him, after 20 mins he was losing any sense of feeling in his hands, and he was again struggling for his life. Through many people tying their coats together, they eventually managed to pull him out, unharmed.

He is the only survivor of a World's End fall, ever. I don't know how many people fell, but it sure is an amazing story, you just can't make this up. Asia,Horton Plains,Sri Lanka,World's End
