Any piece of land! Usually i see the pond heron on the shore, but this one was a bit confusing. Spotted form a far, it looked to be standing on the water. In fact it was on a dead tree that was just above the water line! Ardeola grayii,Geotagged,India,Indian Pond Heron,John Rowell,Kabini,Wildlife,Winter, adhocphotographer, redearth Click/tap to enlarge

The Indian Pond Heron or Paddybird is a small heron. It is of Old World origins, breeding in southern Iran and east to India, Burma, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. They are widespread and common but can be easily missed when they stalk prey at the edge of small water-bodies or even when they roost close to human habitations.
