Young Iberian Wall Lizard
Today consisted of traveling two hours to Navajos, Spain in search of some aquatic habitat for future species. While walking along the creek edge I cam across this slightly grassy and open area where a few rocks were laying about. This guy was found basking and quickly bolted once he saw us. It took the three of us hiking to catch this guy for a few photographs after watching intently and flipping rocks carefully for ten minutes.
The Iberian wall lizard is a small wall lizard species of the genus "Podarcis". It is found in the Iberian peninsula, in northwestern Africa and in coastal districts in Languedoc-Roussillon in France. In Spanish, this lizard is commonly called "lagartija Ibérica".
