  1. Can't believe this got me a species intro! Sometimes i find pics of things and think "I bet that this isn't on jungle dragon" and it is, and I am equally surprised in the reverse situation! oh well... :) Posted 10 years ago
    1. Don't ever hesitate to upload, John, even if it's not a species intro. Both in species and locations we still have a world to explore. Good that you're sharing your Iceland photos, as we have few from there! Posted 10 years ago

Minke whale /ˈmɪnki/, or lesser rorqual, is a name given to two species of marine mammal belonging to a clade within the suborder of baleen whales. The minke whale was given its official designation by Lacepède in 1804, who described a juvenile specimen of ''Balænoptera acuto-rostrata''. The name is a partial translation of Norwegian ''minkehval'', possibly after a Norwegian whaler named Meincke, who mistook a northern minke whale for a blue whale.
