Bighorn Ram - Country Boy
Bighorn sheep do what all other ungulates found throughout Yellowstone National Park in the winter do - eat nonstop. They must eat enough calories to keep up their metabolism and weight if they are to last through the harsh conditions. This ram shown here reminded me of an old farmer because he would chew the grass with most of it hanging out of his mouth, like a farmer chewing on a piece of straw.
The bighorn sheep is a species of sheep in North America named for its large horns. These horns can weigh up to 30 lb, while the sheep themselves weigh up to 300 lb. Recent genetic testing indicates three distinct subspecies of "Ovis canadensis", one of which is endangered.
