Big Horn Ram This ram was the last one to catch up with the others as they made their way down the mountainside to the Yellowstone River. Something was wrong with his front, left leg and he limped with every step he took. Might have been from a fighting injury or from falling.. who knows. The bighorn sheep is a species of sheep in North America named for its large horns. These horns can weigh up to 30 lb, while the sheep themselves weigh up to 300 lb. Recent genetic testing indicates three distinct subspecies of "Ovis canadensis", one of which is endangered.
