Curious Coyote This coyote was across the Lamar River in Lamar Valley, YNP when we spotted him to take pictures. Little did we know, until the last minute, that another coyote was right beside us on the river bank. I couldn't get pictures of him because he was spooked. This coyote had a prettier coat anyway. The Mountain coyote (Canis latrans lestes), also known as the Great Basin coyote, is a subspecies of coyote native to British Columbia and southeastern Alberta south to Utah and Nevada. It is similar to ''C. l. latrans'', but has lighter-colored upper parts.
