
Salal
The woods out here are usually full of this evergreen. Much of what goes into flower arrangements is collected in the wild from the forests along the Pacific Northwest coast. There's some oregon grape in the lower left corner, which is a favorite among brush pickers as well.
''Gaultheria shallon'' is a leathery-leaved shrub in the heather family, native to western North America. In English, it is known as salal, shallon, or simply gaultheria in Britain.
