Burchell's Zebra foal - Shedding Gold
This photograph shows how a Burchell's Zebra foal is in the process of "shedding" its "baby clothes" as it is turning into the adulthood lane. It is amazing how nature works and how patterns and colors play its role in evolution and growth. Photographed in Namibia, southwestern Africa.
The plains zebra, also known as the common zebra, is the most common and geographically widespread species of zebra. Its range is fragmented, but spans much of southern and eastern Africa south of the Sahara. Six subspecies have been recognised including the extinct quagga which was thought to be a separate species.
