Golden-Tailed Woodpecker - Nature's Carpenter
A Golden-tailed Woodpecker female (the male has a short red streak from beak to under the eye) poses with her nest carved out of a wild Weeping Wallow tree. Needless to say, the colors are striking and rather well camouflaged. It is not easy to distinguish between species, but in this case I was fortunate for the perfect pose where one an see the face clearly.
The golden-tailed woodpecker is a species of bird in the Picidae family.
