  1. The history of this fish is just so intriguing. Most everywhere in the world, this fish is a very popular sport and food fish. There are people who dedicate their lives to fishing for this fish. And, since its introduction into North American waters, it has only managed to disrupt and destroy natural ecosystems and lead people to questioning why it was ever introduced here. One of those classic man-induced species introductions that was supposed to bring greatness, but has only brought destruction... Posted 10 years ago
  2. Yeah it has been destructive in N. America and in Australia too, but that's the danger of introducing species to new habitats where their effects on native ecosystems is unpredictable, sadly. Posted 10 years ago

The common carp is a widespread freshwater fish of eutrophic waters in lakes and large rivers in Europe and Asia. The wild populations are considered vulnerable to extinction, but the species has also been domesticated and introduced into environments worldwide, and is often considered an invasive species. It gives its name to the carp family: Cyprinidae. It is on the List of the world's 100 worst invasive species.
