      1. Hi Ferdy I have a quick question, the spider that has the species intro for the Australian garden orb weaver was taken in Central New Jersey (by Maryjo Snolies-Puleo) so how can this be an Australian garden orb weaver? I'm not trying to take away the species intro just trying to clarify. Thanks Mark. Posted 10 years ago

      1. hi Mark,

It looks like that simply was an incorrect species identification by the user, that was overlooked. Great thing that you saw it, getting them correct is a shared community responsibility, so it's great that you reported this.

        1. Ok Cool! Thanks. Posted 10 years ago
      2. Although the range is correct, this is not an Australian garden orb weaver (Eriophora transmarina) either. It is a Humped golden orb weaver (Nephila plumipes). Posted 7 years ago, modified 7 years ago
  2. Great shot. It helps to remember that spiders weaving a web in trees or bushes are seldom dangerous to humans. It's the ones crawling on the ground and in (dark) cavities you should be afraid of. Posted 10 years ago
  3. Thank you! Posted 10 years ago

''Nephila plumipes'' is a species of spider found in Australia, Indonesia and some Pacific Islands, which exhibits extreme sexual dimorphism. It is sometimes called the tiger spider due to its markings which look similar to a tiger.
