The tricoloured munia is an estrildid finch, native to India, Sri Lanka, and southern China. The species was also introduced to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. This species like the chestnut munia has been known as the black-headed munia. Immature birds have pale brown upperparts, lack the dark head found in adults, and have uniform buff underparts that can be confused with immatures of other munias such as the scaly-breasted munia.

Found this little beauty hiding in the bushes, near a paddy farm. I had to wait for some time; creating a blind near by the bushes… fortunately it came out and it was a treat to watch these little birds. I've captured a series of photos and this one is my favorite among those. Will some more from the series some time later.
