Peacock Pansy, Sri Lanka A bit tricky to identify as it is usually shown from the upper side of its wings, which are bright orange. Shown here is the underside of the wings. According to Wikipedia, the underside wings patterns depend on the season, where wet season patterns are richer, as shown here. This seems consistent with this observation, as in November we were at the end of the dry season in Sri Lanka. ''Junonia almana'', the peacock pansy, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in South Asia. It exists in two distinct adult forms, which differ chiefly in the patterns on the underside of the wings; the dry-season form has few markings, while the wet-season form has additional eyespots and lines.
