Upper Snow Creek Falls ll A winter capture of a local waterfall. Not the best snow conditions, but we haven't gotten any good fresh snow for some time and I couldn't wait to go up there any longer. Hopefully we'll get some pretty fresh snow soon and I will go back! Captured in north Idaho's Selkirk Mountains. 1. There are things I like about the winter photo better than the fall photo, and in reverse. I used a longer exposure to create a silkier effect in the winter shot, and I like the results a lot. But I like the composition and colors in the fall photo better.
Upper Snow Creek Falls The upper falls at snow creek in early November. This was a very easy and beautiful hike, and I was there all by myself! Pure silence, minus the roar of the waterfall. Captured in north Idaho. Geotagged,Idaho,Landscapes,United States,Waterfall

    1. Geees... both images are great!!!! nice! :) You using an ND filter or just stopping it down a lot? Posted 10 years ago
      1. Thanks John! No filter, just long shutter time. This one is a 30 second exposure. The other photo I believe was a half second. Posted 10 years ago
        1. First, the photo is amazing. Your best landscape photo yet in my eyes!

Technically though, I'm still surprised. 30 seconds during daytime at F4.5, I would expect that to take in too much light. Or was it already pretty dark at 5:15PM?

          1. It gets dark early here. This was the last shot I took as I could not auto focus afterwards. I hiked back in the dark. Posted 10 years ago
        2. Replying here, thanks for the update. Looks like it indeed was already dark. Quite similar to here, really. I drive to work in the dark and return in the dark. These months are such a drain on me.

          Anyways, again, awesome photo!

          1. Yes, I know what you mean about the winter months having a draining effect. But, it is good to know that the days are already getting longer. We have an hour more of daylight than we did a month ago, and it will only get better :)

And thanks for your kind words, Ferdy!

          2. In the Netherlands, you're at a very similar latitude to us. The farthest north I've ever been was Scotland - and it was right around Christmas, so the very shortest days of the year. The sun came up sometime around 8:30 - 9am… and sunset was around 3:30pm, but on a good note the *entire* day, what there was of it at least, was pretty much all "golden hour" Posted 10 years ago
  2. Beautiful shot Travis, I love it. The colors are just so "unknown" to me as obviously we don't get snow in Namibia ! Amazing how the fall of water looks exactly the same in both pictures. Fantastic shot. Posted 10 years ago
    1. Thank you so much! I have been envying the warm colors in your photos, as we are in the middle of winter here, albeit a mild one. But we still rarely see the sun. I also think it is neat how the waterfall draws the photos together. They look like they could be different places, if not for the waterfall. Thanks for the comment. Posted 10 years ago
