Leopard on a rock This was the second sighting of a wild leopard in Yala National Park. The first one we saw could only be barely observed through thick bushes. This one was luckily out in the open on a large rock. As far as wildlife safaris go in Yala National Park, this is considered the grand price, as it is far from guaranteed that you will encounter them. 1. Very well captured! I believe I even recognize the rock, as we circled Yala for 2 days :) Posted 10 years ago

The Indian leopard is a leopard subspecies widely distributed on the Indian subcontinent and classified as "Near Threatened" by IUCN since 2008. The species "Panthera pardus" may soon qualify for the "Vulnerable" status due to habitat loss and fragmentation, heavy poaching for the illegal trade of skins and body parts in Asia, and persecution due to conflict situations.
