Couldn't get any closer to this Troupial found in the Pantanal. It seems to be a cheerful bird but looks are deceiving. It is a notorious nest thief, it makes no nest of its own yet steals the nests of others and even eats the eggs.

  1. Heh Ferdy, I hope that you don't regret allowing me on JungleDragon - but I think that your identification is not correct (although it may have been in 2011). The common Troupial in the Pantanal is the Orange-backed (used to be conspecific with the Venezuelan), which I just added as a new species. If you look at your photograph and then the ones for the Venezuelan and Orange-backed I think that you will agree and together with the distribution I am pretty sure it is this one. The orange-backed troupial is a species of bird in the family Icteridae. It is found in Guyana, Brazil, Paraguay, and eastern Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru. It is closely related to the Venezuelan troupial and Campo troupial, and at one time, all three were considered to be the same species.
