Snow Goose Sunset
Every year tens of thousands of snow geese overwinter in the Skagit Valley in Washington State. The state works with local farmers, paying them to plant winter cover crops that the geese can eat and designating their fields as sanctuary for the season. Most of the visitors are snow geese, but there are sometimes swans as well.

The snow goose is a North American species of goose. Its name derives from the typically white plumage. The genus of this bird is disputed. The American Ornithologists' Union and BirdLife International place this species and the other "white geese" in the "Chen" genus, while other authorities follow the traditional treatment of placing these species in the "gray goose" genus "Anser".

PS: I love that moment of the day when white turns blue, it's magical and you captured it perfectly. Posted 10 years ago
