Corn on the Stalk Corn is grown in excessive amounts where this photo was taken. In the fields, farmers go every other with corn and soybeans, which the leave to dry out and harvest. Once harvested, it is shipped wherever they want to ship it. Corn like this sis used for animal feed, human food, etc. The people who live surrounded by such fields (mainly me, that I know of) have problems with mice and other rodents. This is because when the crop is harvested, the mice and such that have been living in the field run to wherever there is warmth and food. Such as my house. They like to steal the dog food! Maize, known in many English-speaking countries as corn, is a grain domesticated by indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica in prehistoric times. The leafy stalk produces ears which contain seeds called kernels. Though technically a grain, maize kernels are used in cooking as a vegetable or starch.
