Golden backed ant (red head morph), Sri Lanka After a full hour of searching, I was about to give up on identifying this ant species. I figured it to be a carpenter ant. After a full hour of searching, I was about to give up on identifying this ant species. I figured it to be a carpenter ant. The closest match I could find was the Golden Backed Ant, shown here:
