Burchell's Sandgrouse A pair of very well camouflaged Burchell's Sandgrouse chicks. The parents will "hide" the chicks in underbrush until they are able to fly. Chicks are very difficult to identify ... had it not been for the parents being present, it would not be possible to identify these chicks. Needless to say, Jackals, Eagles and all varieties of raptors and scavengers easily prey on these vulnerable chicks. 1. Superb species intro. When seeing birds like sandgrouse in Africa, I've always wondered how on earth they can survive, they seem like such easy prey. Posted 10 years ago
    1. Thanks for the super compliment. It is my pleasure to share with those willing and eager. Yeah, they get hammered from both the air and ground. But when they lay eggs / rear chicks, they are spread out all over the place. Guess that is the tactic ... spread out and hope for the best. Posted 10 years ago
