  1. hi Jessica, welcome to the community! I have a few pointers to help you get started:

    - First, sorry but I had to delete one of your photos (with the kid on it). Photos of people, buildings and objects are not allowed here, and will be deleted. The rest is fine though.

    - You are strongly encouraged to give your photos a meaningful title and description, this will help people find and understand your photo much better. You can do this from the "Edit details" button below each photo. An example title in this case could be "Two male lions sleeping, <location here>".

    - If you know the full species name on the photo, you are expected to identify it using the "identify species" button to the right of the photo.

It takes some getting used to, but it's easy to do and you'll see that your photos will be much better appreciated, and much better found.

This photo is awesome by the way. Do let us know in case you have any questions, we're here to help.

  2. Note: in this case I identified the species for you. Others can help in this process, but you're expected to do it yourself if you know it. Posted 10 years ago
    1. okay--thank you! will keep that in mind. And regarding the child, I was unsure because of the cattle in the background, but no problem! thanks for the heads up. Posted 10 years ago

The lion is one of the five big cats in the genus "Panthera" and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
