The Domestic Rock Pigeon

This is one of the oldest pigeon indigenous breeds, but it is at the same time considered to be the best high flying pigeon in Serbia. It has descended from the Turkish fliers which were accepted by Serbian breeders after the Turks’ retreat from Serbia and interbred with existing pigeon breeds. The basic aim of selection was to develop a pigeon whose flight would be high, long and circular. According to some data, the breed was developed around 1800 in the region of Central Serbia, while the first standard was established in 1972.
