This deer ran up to me I first saw this deer from a long way away, so far away I thought it was a trail marking post . . . until it moved. I stayed put and it started to run my way. Eventually it stopped here, about 25 feet away from me, where it seemed to decide I really was there and it really didn't want to keep coming toward me. I was a bit worried about making it swim because the trail ran between two canals, but as you can see it had already been swimming that day. The white-tailed deer, also known commonly as the whitetail and the Virginia deer, is a medium-sized species of deer native to North America, Central America, and South America as far south as Peru and Bolivia, where it predominately inhabits high mountain terrains of the Andes.
