  1. Initially I had this as Heliophanus transvaalicus, taken from this site:
    http://www.jumpingspiders.co.za/gallery.html
    However, the photos of this spider on there do not match the photos in the Field Guide to the Spiders of South Africa. So at the moment this will have to remain as Heliophanus sp.
    Note: My initial identification has now been confirmed as correct.

The family Salticidae are the largest spider family with a worldwide distribution. These spiders are free-living plant dwellers. In general, Heliophanus species are dark brown to black, often with a metallic sheen. H. transvaalicus is approximately 4-5mm in both males and females
