  Not 100% sure. Not really an expert on snakes. But if I had to guess it would I would guess a type of garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis). They are pretty common where I am from (if you know where to look). He was not too big either, 16 maybe 18 inches at most. Posted 10 years ago
