    1. Thanks Wildflower it is a Goldtail. I was put off this ID previously as the tip of the tail is white and not gold, but the rest of it is identical to the Goldtails and it appears that is is only these that have the white pterostigmas (outer wing cell) in our area. So, Goldtail it is. We have many of these and the malachites around at the moment which is just lovely, like the garden is filled with fairies! Posted 10 years ago

    1. Thanks Ferdy, it amazes me how these little damselflies will sit so still, even if you get close. If they do fly off, they invariably come back to the same spot. Great subjects, I have been waiting a while though for one to face me full on, happy days! Posted 10 years ago

''Allocnemis leucosticta'', the Goldtail is a species of damselfly in family Platycnemididae. It is endemic to South Africa and Swaziland. This shade-loving species is found along streams and rivers in wooded valleys.
