Bateleur Eagles - Posing Power
Three young (immature) Bateleur Eagles visit a watering hole, with wings spread out to absorb heat and dry out. This photograph has always captivated me in the sense of absolute peace. These large birds will not act like this if they are bothered or disturbed in any way. The negative part about photographing eagles (at least in my area) is the fact that they seem to visit watering holes right at lunch time (when the sun and light is rather bad with minimal color showing).
The Bateleur is a medium-sized eagle in the bird family ''Accipitridae'' which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as buzzards, kites and harriers. It is the only member of the genus ''Terathopius'' and probably the origin of the "Zimbabwe bird", national emblem of Zimbabwe.
