Pilot-for-the-President This photorgaph was taken in Boodihala, Alamatti backwaters, Bagalkot. the Birds in the photo are two SANDPIPERS and one OPEN BILLED STORK. The two sandpipers appear as the pilot guards for the open billed stork which is the president. The submerged parts of Bagalkot due to the Alamatti dam backwaters has created a natural sanctuary for all kinds of water birds. The Asian openbill or Asian openbill stork is a large wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. This distinctive stork is found mainly in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is greyish white with glossy black wings and tail and the adults have a gap between the arched upper mandible and recurved lower mandible.
