Red Billed Quelea - Flock of Thousands
A flock of Red-billed Quelea photographed during the start of the hot summer months in Namibia, southwestern Africa. Some of these flocks can be a hundred thousand birds strong, creating its own wind as they pass. This specific flock (part of it), was more in the 10 000 class.

The red-billed quelea is the world's most abundant wild bird species, with an estimated adult breeding population of 1.5 billion pairs. Some estimates of the overall population have been as large as 10 billion. The entire population is found in sub-Saharan Africa and is generally absent from deeply forested regions and the southern reaches of South Africa. It is a small passerine bird of the weaver family Ploceidae.
