  1. I love that you can see the grass on its head! I am often looking for subtle things like this that might make a photo stand out, rather than just another photo of an animal. One instance was this past summer when I was in YNP, every now and then I would see a bison with cowbirds perched on top. I would turn around at the next pullout and go back, only to find the birds had left. Maybe next summer :) Posted 10 years ago

The Sri Lankan elephant is one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant, and native to Sri Lanka. Since 1986, "Elephas maximus" has been listed as endangered by IUCN as the population has declined by at least 50% over the last three generations, estimated to be 60–75 years. The species is pre-eminently threatened by habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation.
